Two related phenomena have been analysed :
WANTS
While Islam recognizes the existence of wants as a basic feeling experienced by human beings, it does not agree with the overemphasis on man’s tireless efforts at more & more material goods for endless want satisfaction. Wants are necessary for survival, but the means used to fulfill wants must be ethically sound and socially just. Human beings have been created for Allah’s Ibadah or worship; they are one of Allah’s sublime creations. Our purpose of life must not be focused on acquiring maximum material possessions.
RATIONALITY
Conventional Economics defines a rational being as one who tries to maximize his self-interest or personal gain – applies to consumers, producers & resource owners. Again, this is a distorted perception. It overemphasizes materialism, with neglect of moral values, social considerations or spiritual satisfaction.
