Our Deen encourages us to lend a helping hand to the beleiver and other good causes.

However Islam discourages to borrow money from others.
Our Beloved Prophet (s) use to pray “O Allah, I seek refuge with You from Kufr and debt.” A man said, “O Prophet of Allah, you call debt equal to Kufr.” He said, “Yes”
The scholars elaborate that the reason behind Prophet (s) mentioning debt and kufr as two sides of the same coin is because when a debtor becomes unable to pay back the debt he ends up denying the right of the creditor (debt) which is similar to denying the right of the Creator to be worshipped.
