The controversial Class VII textbooks issued by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Democratic Front government this academic year (2008) has been accused of injecting atheism and communist ideas among students. All religious communties have expressed concern about the irreligious nature of the textbook
As part of the campaign, many churches have held special prayers and meetings to enlighten the laity on the dangers posed by the new textbook. A delegation of leaders of various Muslim orgnizations have also met with the government to remove the controversial syllabus.
There is also a feeling among many that the book has tried to project the isolated communist uprising as part of the freedom struggle, undermining the national movement.
Najeeb Kanthapuram, a top leader of Muslim Youth League, shares with JAIHOON.TV his views on the dangers of the communist agenda.
